Why You'll Love This Program
The POP Club is more than just shopping, it's a basic financial literacy program designed to also build social skills, healthy habits, and a true sense of belonging.
Program Highlights & Learning Fun:
- "Bingo": Weekly Bingo cards challenge members to engage with the community, from doing physical activities to complimenting others or asking vendors questions.
- Fun Rewards: Completing 4+ Bingo tasks earns fun prizes like bubbles, stickers, and tattoos!
- Creative Fun: Participate in activities and demonstrations that teach about healthy eating, basic financial principles, decision making, and interacting with others.
- Tastings: Try new fruits and veggies throughout the season at the Market Info Booth! You might even rediscover old favorites!
Benefits & Building Life Skills:
- Healthy Habits & Pride: Gain exposure to farm-fresh produce, get insights directly from local growers, and depart with a sense of pride in purchasing nutritious food.
- Quality Time: Bond with others in the community while enjoying some outside unplugged time, listening to music, and meeting new friends.
- Empowered Choices: Participants are empowered to make their own decisions and try new things.
- Real Responsibility: POP Bucks act like cash—if lost, they are not replaced, reinforcing personal responsibility.
How POP Club Works
Visit the Big Blue Market Info Tent, give our volunteers your full name & receive your weekly “POP Bucks”.
Participants receive a $3-$5 weekly allotment to buy their own fresh fruits and veggies. Opportunities to earn more POP Bucks will also be available throughout the season!
Tokens can be spent immediately or saved up over the season for larger items. (Just make sure to use them before the season ends!)
Making the Most of POP Club
Tips for Parents & Caregivers
Help us foster independence and the crucial skill of delayed gratification!
- DO let participants guide the way, enjoy an unplugged afternoon, and interact directly with vendors.
- DO check out the community groups at the market and say hello to our sponsors.
- DON'T trade their tokens for treats.
- DON'T add your own money to their purchase. If they don't have enough, encourage them to ask the vendor if the item will be available next week so they can save up!
Senior POP Club (Ages 70+)
We are thrilled to welcome seniors to the POP Club for the second year! It is a wonderful way to enjoy the fresh air, pick up healthy food, and engage with the community.
- Fresh Produce: Seniors also receive a weekly allotment of POP Bucks to spend on fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables at the market.
- Community Connection: Make new friends, catch up with neighbors, and enjoy the vibrant market atmosphere.
- Relax & Unwind: Listen to local musicians or take a break and hang out in the "Belonging Bus Living Room."
- Creative Fun: Join in and participate in our weekly craft activities!
- Volunteer: We love having new volunteers, if you enjoy your time at the market, how about joining us?!
