Celebrating 50 Years of Service in Westborough and Beyond

Thank You Sponsors!
Reina Rago, President of the Rotary Club of Westborough

As the president of the Rotary Club of Westborough, I am honored to lead our service organization.  Our members are people of action who are committed to making a positive impact on our community and in the world beyond.

When I first joined Rotary 8 years ago, I had no idea Rotary was an international organization comprised of over 1.2 million members in over 45,00 clubs.  I had no idea that Rotary led the mission to eradicate polio.  I had no idea that Rotary is committed to: promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, sanitation and hygiene, saving mothers and children, supporting education, growing local economies, and protecting our environment.  Rotary is dedicated to tackling some of the most challenging issues that face humanity. For all these reasons and more, I am proud to represent Rotary in the Westborough community. Since our club's inception over 50 year ago, we have helped to make a positive impact on the community through sustainable programs. In my role as president, one of my major goals is to work closely with businesses and organizations to continue our vital work in health education and the environment.

Nominate your Unsung Hero!
It's time to recognize the Unsung Heroes who have made a significant impact on Westborough. The deadline for nominations is February 28!  Nominees do NOT have to live in Westborough or be Rotarians. Nominees may be honored posthumously. We want to honor the remarkable heroes, youth and adults, who unselfishly serve and give inspirational leadership.  Whether it be a neighbor who goes the extra mile for someone in need, a teacher who reignites our love for learning, or a coach who helps us achieve our goals, there is no shortage of compassion amongst community members.

Nominations should be based on the candidate's spirit of volunteerism, impact as a result of their selfless act(s) and service, and role in "making a difference" through service in the Westborough community. The RWC will select three individuals from the Youth category and three individuals from the Adult category. NOMINATE YOUR UNSUNG HERO TODAY!

Member Spotlight - Sharad Mehta

Sharad Mehta joined the Rotary in 2019 and he is a member of the Rotary Club of Westborough.  In addition, Sharad is the club's Environmental Chair and the President elect.
Passionate about the environment, Sharad created the club's Trex Plastic Collection Challenge a few years ago.  In 2024, over 15,000 lbs of film plastic were collected.  From February - May, members of the community bring their thin film plastic to different collection locations (Kohls, Central One in Westborough and Northborough, and the Westborough High School); the plastic is then collected and weighed.  Working closely with the Trex Company, Inc., a manufacturer of wood-alternative composite decking, railing, and other outdoor items made from recycled materials, the plastic is made into benches for the community.

In addition to spearheading the Trex Collection Challenge, Sharad leads two other significant environmental initiatives for the community: the Environmental Action Fair (see first article) as well as the Electric Vehicle Fair.

Shard is a Technical Staff at MIT Lincoln Lab. He lives in Westborough with his wife, Alka, and has two sons.
