Sharad Mehta joined the Rotary in 2019 and he is a member of the Rotary Club of Westborough. In addition, Sharad is the club's Environmental Chair and the President elect. Passionate about the environment, Sharad created the club's Trex Plastic Collection Challenge a few years ago. In 2024, over 15,000 lbs of film plastic were collected. From February - May, members of the community bring their thin film plastic to different collection locations (Kohls, Central One in Westborough and Northborough, and the Westborough High School); the plastic is then collected and weighed. Working closely with the Trex Company, Inc., a manufacturer of wood-alternative composite decking, railing, and other outdoor items made from recycled materials, the plastic is made into benches for the community. In addition to spearheading the Trex Collection Challenge, Sharad leads two other significant environmental initiatives for the community: the Environmental Action Fair (see first article) as well as the Electric Vehicle Fair. Shard is a Technical Staff at MIT Lincoln Lab. He lives in Westborough with his wife, Alka, and has two sons.
