eBridge Montessori School

Westborough Rotarian Jin Huang opened the eBridge Montessori School in 2005.  At our meeting on January 31, Jin told us about the principles of a Montessori education, based on teaching methods developed by Dr. Maria Montessori more than 100 years ago. With a child-centered philosophy, a Montessori education focusses on practical, sensorial, language and math skills. The program uses specially designed objects and materials to provide concrete examples of real-world concepts. There are now more than 4,000 Montessori schools in the United States, and nearly 7,000 worldwide, with programs available for pre-school through high school and beyond.  eBridge Montessori in Westborough offers education for children from 15 months to 6 years of age. To learn more about a Montessori education, see Jon's entire presentation on our Facebook page or visit the school's website.

Congratulations Kathy and keep up the great work!

Rotarians In The News
Here's a roundup of Westborough Rotarians featured in local news stories this week.  The Community Advocate published an article entitled What does it mean to educate the ‘Whole Child’? by Reina Rago, Communications Coordinator for Marlborough Public Schools.  The article looks at the challenges of educating a diverse student population with a wide range of needs, concluding that schools must go beyond basic fundamentals to ensure student success.  Also in the Advocate, Gary Kelley and his real estate partner Sue Gordon were featured in an article entitled Making The Right Move which discussed the importance of presale preparation when selling your property.  Finally, this week, Right at Home, owned by Shelby Marshall and her business partner Gail Hanson made news when Right at Home of Eastern Worcester County was honored among top home care agencies in the nation when it was named "Caring Star of 2018" for Senior Care Service Excellence Congratulations to the entire team at Right At Home!

Happy Birthday Chris Bakutis!
Rotarians, friends and family watched as the Worcester Railers skated to a 5-2 win over the visiting Quad City Mallards at the DCU Center Friday, January 26. This annual event also has become a celebration of WRC member Chris Bakutis' birthday.  Also that weekend, Chris and her team from Mugford's Flowers demonstrated their extraordinary talents with flower arrangements at the Worcester Art Museum's annual Flora in Winter weekend.
Care Packages for Troops
The Westborough Veterans Advisory Board (WVAB) is sponsoring a community drive to provide care packages to a battalion of infantry troops primarily from Massachusetts that are stationed in the Middle East.  The battalion consists of 189 males and 3 females.

The WVAB has established locations where residents of Westborough who wish to sponsor a care package may come and pick up boxes.  Each box will have instructions as to the items requested by this infantry battalion.  Residents should use the “shopping list” as a guide. When the boxes are filled they should be returned to a location listed below no later than February 23, 2018.

The locations for pick-up and drop-off are:

  • Westborough Veterans Advisory Board, Town Hall Lower Level
  • The First United Methodist Church, 120 West Main Street
  • Westborough Public Library
  • Westborough TV Station, West Main Street
  • Senior Citizens Center, 4 Rodgers Road

The First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Westborough is assisting the Veterans Advisory Board with the logistics. Donations to offset the cost of postage to deliver the packages to our troops can be made with the check payable to Westborough FUMC, 120 West Main Street, Westborough, MA 01581.  Please make a note referencing the VAB Care Packages.

Westborough Rotary Sponsors ESSEX Exchange Student

The Rotary Club of Westborough is excited to announce its participation in the ESSEX Short-Term Exchange Program. The club will sponsor Daniel Proudman from Hopkinton, MA. Daniel will travel overseas this summer for about three weeks. He will stay with a student and family and he will be welcomed by the local Rotary club. His actual destination is not yet known. His first choice is Taiwan where he plans to immerse himself in the culture and where he can practice his Mandarin. Daniel and his family will reciprocate and host the student for three weeks.  During this time the RCW will welcome the student and host a lunch/dinner in the student’s honor. Every year, about 8,000 young people from around the world participate in Rotary’s Youth Exchange Program. To learn more visit http://www.exchangestudent.org.
